Kieran points to a ZD Net article which notes how some companies are starting to look how they can outsource development at home. I’ve often wondered why in Australia we don’t take advantage of our land and establish rural technology centres near small country towns where land is cheap and it is possible to get the infrastructure established.

I’d love to live in a country town but there really aren’t any jobs out there for someone like me. I’ve got lots of ideas how something like this could work for those people who are dedicated to their technology career and for the companies that pay their wages.

The technology centres would be sufficiently remote that it would almost be like living an ex-pat life-style, except because most people would be from Australia it would be easy to establish communities for families to thrive.
