Grant has posted up a good post about IP development and some of the inputs and constraints required to make it work. Grant also hit on a key point which is you need motivation to get something off the ground.

I’d like to turn that around and say that you also need support. If you are a geek that comes up with a great idea for a piece of software you really need the support of someone who is business savvy.

Getting a software product out the door seems to be like two people sitting in the room. You’ve got the geek who is terrified of all the business aspects but they are absolutely confident that they could write the code, and then you’ve got the business person who knows that they could probably sell the product if they had it – but they don’t know how to get the code.

All it takes is both people to make a commitment to each other to deliver what they are good at.
