Dave Glover has posted up about the new Online Pricing Calculator for MSDN and the various Visual Studio 2005 editions. This is probably something that you’d want to forward to your bean counters with a covering note.

I’d like to see the pricing for Team Foundation Server listed but I suspect that hasn’t been completely finalised yet given that its not going to drop until next year sometime. Team Foundation Server itself probably won’t be as expensive as the team editions unless you have an insane amount of additional CALs for non-Visual Studio users.

The power of TFS as a collaborative tool can’t be underestimated. We had a situation today where if we had adopted the product earlier we could have identified a problem and kept in front of mind until it was resolved by creating a detailed Risk work item.

Because we didn’t have a risk list that was being maintained we have found ourselves close to the end of a development iteration with a technical issue which may not have such a straight-forward resolution – as as time ticks by options become closed to us.
