Steve Smith spreads the word that Visual Studio 2005 (RC) and Team Foundation Server (BETA 3) will ship sometime in September. He also points out that TFS will come with a Go-Live! license which essentially means the quality will be at a point that Microsoft reasonably expects to be able to seamlessly upgrade from TFS (BETA 3) to TFS (RTM) that will ship some time early next year.

I suspect that there are a lot of sites that went ahead without this go-live license but the project managers will be relieved to be able to remove that risk from their project. I guess we’ll find out how painful it is to upgrade from TFS (BETA 2) to TFS (BETA 3).

Putting Team System to one side for a moment, this also means that VS2005 is well into its finaly push to release so I would expect this next release to be pretty solid. If you are starting or have just started a project that is planning to release around November or beyond then you might want to consider VS2005 now.

Heck – I know some customers who have been working with it for a year or so!
