I just read this post about measuring the conversational index of your blog. Its really a measure of how effective your uISV blog is at creating the distributed conversation. The calculation on the ToDoOrElse.com site is pretty simple:

[Conversational Index] = [Posts] / ([Comments] + [Trackbacks])

So I decided to open up my blog engine database and take a peak. My conversational comes out at about 0.698 which according to conventional wisdom is pretty good.

0.698 = 932 / (972 + 362)

Having said that – I think the number is artificially inflated. If I remove the intra-site trackbacks and the comments that I have posted myself then it is no where near as good (although still a pass).

0.968 = 932 / (718 + 244)

I guess its not so critical for my blog since I am not really selling anything but for someone whose business depends on it could be a useful measure for when more time needs to be spent communicating with your customers.
